The New School, a distinguished progressive university located in New York City, seeks an experienced and innovative academic administrator to serve as dean of Eugene Lang College The New School for Liberal Arts. The dean will lead a dedicated faculty working to strengthen liberal arts education within the university and nationally. The college’s seminar-based curriculum prepares students to be leaders in a changing world by providing them with the depth and breadth of knowledge and critical thinking skills offered by the best liberal arts programs.
Eugene Lang College emphasizes collaboration both within the college and across the university. With its seminar format and curricular links to both the larger university and the city, the college provides unique programmatic opportunities that draw on these distinctive strengths. The dean will be expected to build on the work of the last ten years, strengthening Lang’s identity as an urban liberal arts school within a university closely identified with New York City.
This leadership position requires someone with a creative spirit and highly developed academic management skills. Candidates should have experience in institution building and overseeing the development of high-quality contemporary liberal arts curricula. Strategic thinking along with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills will be essential to success.
