The College of Coastal Georgia is seeking an experienced academic leader for the new position of Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences.
The College of Coastal Georgia is offering a rare and distinctive opportunity for a well-qualified leader to direct the development of an innovative and collaborative Nursing program that is being designed to prepare graduates of the highest caliber in an energetic and forward-looking four-year college setting. The Southeast Georgia Health System Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences will have responsibility for building a premier nursing and health sciences faculty and curriculum.
A new state-of-the-art Health and Science building is presently under construction, which will be an exemplary resource for the Health and Sciences program. The College is located in Brunswick, Georgia, the major city serving the Atlantic coast’s Golden Isles.
To be considered, candidates must hold an earned doctorate and be eligible for Georgia State licensure as a registered nurse. In addition to having at least five years of progressive administrative experience, candidates must have a record of teaching and scholarship that merits the rank of a tenured professor.
The Position
Directing the 17-faculty member department, the Dean will have a major role in shaping and developing the College’s new pre-licensure baccalaureate in nursing, accelerated track, and RN-to-BSN programs. This officer also will oversee the associate degree programs in nursing and radiologic sciences.
Among the responsibilities of this position will be to:
- Persuasively articulate the vision, mission and goals of the Nursing and Health Sciences programs as well as the College of Coastal Georgia
- Continue developing the foundation, infrastructure and resources for expanding the Nursing and Health Sciences programs
- Oversee assessment, develop or revise academic programs, and implement procedures and processes that enable the College to meet goals and standards in nursing and the health sciences
- Effectively and efficiently develop and manage the budget and the faculty and staff resources allocated to the Nursing and Health Sciences programs
- Provide effective leadership and advocacy for the Nursing and Health Sciences programs and the faculty within the College and local community
- Actively promote inclusion and diversity in the staff, faculty and student populations
- Lead collaboratively in a manner that promotes a supportive, responsive working and learning environment
- Promote ideas, foster innovation, encourage scholarship and demonstrate respectful leadership

The Dean will have an abiding commitment to academic excellence and a successful record of leading organizational change in an academic setting. The candidate selected will have:
- The ability to foster strong, collaborative partnerships with area hospitals, health organizations and the broader community
- A strong background in program design, faculty development and accreditation
- Experience with development and implementation of processes and procedures and with program planning and assessment that enables the program to achieve goals and standards
- A collegial leadership style that promotes a supportive, responsive working and learning environment for faculty, staff and students
Exceptional written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
- An understanding of budgetary processes and procedures and personnel management
- The ability to recruit, retain and develop talented faculty
- A commitment to promote diversity among the faculty, staff and student populations
- The ability to listen to divergent views while building consensus and collegiality
- The highest standards of personal and professional integrity and credibility

The College of Coastal Georgia is the newest four-year state college in the 35-member University System of Georgia. The College transitioned from a two-year to a four-year institution in 2009 with a new mission and vision.
