Saint Joseph’s University, located in western Philadelphia, is currently recruiting for a full-time General Manager. The General Manager is responsible for meeting the needs of the University for print services through internal and external sources, as appropriate. S/he ensures a high quality product at a reasonable price for all printed materials. The General Manager works closely with Creative Services, to meet the needs of the University clients. S/he must be very effective in customer relations and in financial management, instilling confidence in the pricing and product of Print Services.
A few specific duties include
• Implements a strategy that is designed to achieve and make substantial progress toward achieving a break even or revenue generating print operation predominantly to meet the needs of the University over a three year period with significant annual progress.
• Identifies the appropriate software for meeting the needs of the operation; oversees installation and start-up of new equipment and software; provides training to ensure implementation.
• Supervises manufacturing, quality control, print procurement, paper & materials purchasing via contracts established with and by University Purchasing, relationship with suppliers.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree; a minimum of 4 years of demonstrated successful experience in managing a print operation that generated revenue or met targeted budget goals; at least 4 years of experience in manufacturing management, order entry, scheduling, estimating, print customer service and three years in printing plant department; working expertise with print management information systems including estimating, establishing hourly rates, applying time and spoilage standards; working knowledge of Color Theory and the implementation of Color Management practice across an integrated Lithographic and Digital Print platforms. (This assures that the same image is reproduced identically.); demonstrated knowledge of and experience with industry-specific and general software to ensure operational efficiencies, including the management of work flow; and familiarity with digital workflows from electronic prepress into digital printing and computer to plate; web to print software for small printer commodity products; and Printing Industry management benchmarks
Preference will be given to candidates who have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Management or equivalent technical education and experience specific to print operations; and/or experience marketing print services to targeted client populations.
