Primary Functions

  • The Chair's Assistant manages the administrative support function for the Chair and faculty of the Management Information Systems Department. Position works collaboratively with the School of Business Administration (SoBA) database coordinator, serving as the liaison between the database coordinator and the other department assistants. Duties include, but are not limited to: supporting the SoBA Undergraduate Assessment Committee; managing and serving as the expert for Chalk and Wire electronic portfolios, including providing direction, support, and training to SoBA faculty; assisting with grading using multiple choice software to grade exams and summarize results; playing a key role in course scheduling, enrollment management, curriculum changes, faculty recruitment, performance evaluations, and other related tasks; coordinating biannual events for the MIS Advisory Board; supporting other MIS events; collaborating with MIS faculty to prepare exams; managing content and updating the MIS web pages; completing administrative and computer software- related special projects at the direction of the MIS department chair; proofreading and editing a variety of documents; providing training to both students and faculty in the use of all related software utilized by MIS; collaborating with faculty in the development of curriculum maps to learning goals and objectives; analyzing a variety of information in order to provide accurate data and make recommendations to a variety of individuals within SoBA; serving as a computer resource for other chair's assistants, including using databases to prepare and maintain teaching evaluation summaries; grading and summarizing test results for SoBA faculty; developing and documenting procedures for students and faculty; developing and maintaining summary reports of student achievement; supervising the activities of a variety of staff and faculty who do not report to this position with regard to implementing and maintaining Chalk and Wire software.

  • Position will demonstrate: advanced computer skills and the ability to learn new software quickly; knowledge of faculty recruiting and evaluation guidelines and requirements in order to follow university policies and state and national laws; event-planning experience; advanced proofreading and editorial skills; ability to train both students and faculty in the use of software; detailed knowledge of SoBA classes and how the curriculum maps to learning goals and objectives; knowledge of REMARK software for grading multiple choice tests and summarizing the results for all SoBA faculty members; intermediate knowledge of database principles; ability to organize, prioritize, pay attention to detail, solve problems and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with diverse populations including department chairs, other administrators, faculty, faculty applicants, staff, students, alumni, and friends of the School of Business Administration.

    Minimum Job Qualifications

  • High school graduation and four (4) years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

    Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated skill in the operation of personal computers, e-mail, the internet and web page maintenance.
  • Demonstrated expert skill in the MS Office Suite, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database software. A computer exercise will be given at the time of interview.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new software programs quickly and autonomously.
  • Expertise in technical writing, with the ability to create effective business correspondence and prepare training documents for software procedures.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, public relations, persuasion, negotiation, and communication skills, including ability to relate well to diverse groups of faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, students and parents.
  • Demonstrated organizational, multi-tasking and project and time management skills.
  • Ability to complete tasks accurately with attention to detail, and to meet deadlines in a busy environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
  • Ability to learn quickly, problem solve, and make sound decisions using good judgment.
