Primary Functions

  • Position is a member of the University Center's (UC) Marketing Unit, in which various duties include providing support and assisting the needs of various UC staff in multiple areas of communication. Duties include, but are not limited to: assisting in the coordination of Information Technology (IT) systems and practices; attending and participating in pertinent IT meetings; ensuring UC compliance to the University and Student Affair's IT policies; attending and participating in IT classes, seminars, and conferences in effort to apply new trends and technology knowledge to the UC; making recommendations for IT hardware and software changes and/or purchases; assisting UC staff in troubleshooting and assisting in IT concerns and needs; establishing and maintaining a current and thorough understanding of the various specialized software applications used by the UC by attending training, taking on-line tutorials, and reading supplemental materials as necessary; maintaining contract agreement; communicating with software representatives; managing software contract(s), including working with Student Affairs IT on any software update and patches; acting as a consultant for software applications, which includes: training campus-wide users with varying degrees of technological; altering fields, creating and running custom queries, and designing; providing support to users over the phone, via e-mail, and in person; developing relevant training and/or communication information; responsibility for the maintenance and editorial content of the UC website and any secondary sites that are under the purview of the University Center; assisting in the facilitation of communication and public relations efforts of the UC; working as a team member of the UC demonstrating interest and concern for its overall success in fulfilling its mission.

  • Position will demonstrate: knowledge and understanding of various complex software applications (Event Management System, Ship Rite, Johnson Controls, Fourwinds, Griz Card Point of Sale); experience in the development of web pages and related items working primarily in content management system or webpage design templates; knowledge of technical aspects of web page development; knowledge and ability to develop a creative, interactive, enticing website; knowledge and familiarity of web navigation tools; knowledge of web design software, specifically with use of a content management system; ability to plan and coordinate the logistics of developing a website; demonstrated understanding of student union philosophy and the role of the union within the university; experience in the development of creative public relation campaigns, specifically with a young adult population and thus, sensitivity to the ever-changing ways to communicate with students; ability to design and create effective promotional and advertising materials; ability to establish as measureable system to evaluate the success of public relation efforts; demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the multiple programs and services offered in the UC; ability to disseminate information accurately and in a timely manner; familiarity with social networking and the ability to utilize the use of such media as a means to effectively communicate and outreach to our student constituents (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube); ability to interact effectively and professionally with all UC staff members, business partners, and ASUM; willingness to participate on various University Center committees and work on special projects as assigned

    Minimum Job Qualifications

  • High school graduation and three (3) years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

    Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience and skill in website development and maintenance as well as in developing and using web-based communications and software
  • Demonstrated experience with creative public relations campaigns including the ability to develop promotional strategies and materials
  • Demonstrated knowledge of marketing and public relations principles and practices that include the application of emerging technology media, e.g., social networking, mobile media, blogs, wikis
  • Effective public relations, interpersonal and oral communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with a diverse group of individuals
  • Demonstrated experience in various aspects of technology related to the ability to troubleshoot issues and assist staff as well as stay abreast of trends and make recommendations
  • Demonstrated skill in the operation of personal computers, related word processing, graphic and publishing software and hardware, with the ability to learn new software programs
  • Ability to write, edit and layout documents in a variety of formats, suitable for intended audience
  • Organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills and ability to meet deadlines in a busy environment
