Primary Functions
Position is responsible for marketing and public relations as well as planning and coordinating Bureau conferences and events including the annual Montana Economic Outlook Seminars. Duties include, but are not limited to: marketing and promoting all BBER publications, programs, and services; creating and implementing marketing plans and tools to develop and maintain awareness of BBER with non-UM constituencies; creating, writing, and delivering publicity and educational materials to promote BBER; establishing and maintaining cooperative relationships with representatives of the media including radio, television, newspaper, and magazines; translating complex research data into non-technical terms for the media, the general public, and policy makers; responding to requests for information from the media, community, consumers, government agencies, and public interest groups; initiating, creating, planning, and implementing statewide and national conferences, seminars, and other BBER events; representing BBER in national and regional professional organizations; maintaining, tracking, and processing all BBER contacts in the department's database; creating and managing forms, invoices, statements, and confirmations related to the annual Montana Economic Outlook Seminars and other BBER events; creating, maintaining, and updating departmental web site and managing online and social media communications with the purpose of marketing Bureau programs, publications, events, and services; supervising data entry and administrative associate employees assisting with event planning; serving as a point of contact for Web site content issues. Position requires occasional travel to seminar events and conferences
Position will demonstrate: comprehensive knowledge of writing, editing, graphic design, marketing principles and techniques; knowledge of pertinent University Relations policies and procedures; knowledge of web site and graphic design software, including Dreamweaver; knowledge of web services practices and security; experience with Microsoft Access, Excel, and SQL; familiarity with HTML and Content Management Systems; comprehensive knowledge of Montana media organizations and contacts; knowledge of AP style of editing; skill in event planning and budget management; knowledge of news organizations; extensive knowledge regarding presentation equipment including digital projectors, personal computers, and sound systems.
Minimum Job Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in marketing, journalism, public relations, or related field and two years professional experience in a leadership role in marketing, editing/writing, or public relations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to promote and market programs, publications, and services
Demonstrated knowledge of writing, editing, graphic design, and printing production principles and practices. Writing exercises will be given at the time of interview.
Demonstrated experience in program management and events planning
Effective interpersonal, public relations and communication skills including the ability to work with a diverse group of individuals
Demonstrated skill and ability to operate personal computers and related word processing, spreadsheet, database, website, and graphic design software
Organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills and ability to meet deadlines in a busy environment
