Macon State College, one of thirty-five institutions in the University System of Georgia, invites applications for a tenure track position in history. Candidates must have an earned doctorate in history and a record of teaching and scholarship that warrants appointment at the rank of assistant professor.
The successful candidate will teach freshman-level courses in world history and upper-level courses in comparative world history, global environmental history, and/or colonialism. Ability to offer area-specific courses in European, African, Latin American, or South Asian history is a plus. Applicant goals should support the institution’s goals in the areas of teaching, service, scholarship and professional growth and development. Normal teaching load is twelve hours each semester. Responsibilities include teaching day and/or evening classes in Macon and at the Warner Robins Campus.

Macon State College, a regionally accredited baccalaureate institution, is organized into five schools (Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Information Technology, and Nursing and Health Sciences). With a main campus in Macon, a campus in Warner Robins, and a center on Robins Air Force Base. Macon State College has approximately 200 full-time faculty and serves approximately 6,400 commuting students. The diverse student body is approximately equally divided between traditional and non-traditional students. The Macon metropolitan area, with an approximate population of 350,000, is located 75 miles south of Atlanta. Salary for the position is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. In compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, proof of authorization to work in the United States will be required at the time of hire. The starting date for the position is August, 2011.
