The mission of the University Honors Program is to provide academically motivated students challenging courses that supplement the university’s already outstanding academic offerings and enhance the educational experience inside and outside the classroom.
AUM invites applications for the position of Director of the University Honors Program. The Director provides overall leadership for the Honors Program, ensuring quality and taking the lead in developing and managing an academic program that fits within the mission of the University. AUM is seeking a Director with the vision and leadership necessary to transition the Program to one of high academic quality and greater visibility within the University community. The Director must be able to closely collaborate with other academic and nonacademic units on campus and must be instrumental in raising external funds in support of the Honors Program.
Applicants must have a Master's or terminal degree in an appropriate discipline and a documented record of intellectual/creative accomplishment and academic engagement. The Director position is a twelve-month position, with assistant/associate standing in an existing academic department. The successful applicant will teach honors courses in the department in which they would earn tenure.
The Director position must have five years experience working and teaching undergraduate honors students; excellent organizational and writing skills; dynamic public speaking and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively; functional knowledge of computer technology; willingness and ability to travel and occasionally work on evenings and weekends. Academic administrative experience including ability to supervise staff as well as manage an operating budget is required. Salary is negotiable with an anticipated range in the high 70’s.
