RESEARCH TECHNICIAN III

Job Summary The successful applicant will have some non-class laboratory experience sufficient to be readily trained in the specific biochemical and biophysical techniques required for this position. With instruction by the PI and senior lab members he/she will acquire the specific skills needed to purify metalloregulatory proteins and characterize their metal and DNA binding properties using instruments available in our lab and those of our collaborators at the UGA Chemistry Dept and College of Pharmacy and the ORNL and the SSRL. He/she will also examine the metal binding properties of other essential proteins and metabolites, keep clear and detailed records on both projects, and make regular presentations at laboratory group meetings. Most laboratory work will be done in Biological Sciences Bldg or the Pharmacy Bldg (with UGA collaborator Cory Momany) during regular business hours. Occasional off-site work may be done with our collbaorators at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory

The incumbent will also carry out routine lab maintenance tasks with the assistance of one or more undergrad hourly employees.

He/she will also acquire, read, and share the scientific literature relevant to these projects, assist in the preparation of annual reports to the sponsoring agency, and present research results at professional meetings.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree and no experience or equivalent combination required.

Area-specific certification may be required and training will be provided as appropriate (i.e. UGA HazMat training).
